Notes | By his 25th year, Thomas was residing at Chislet. By March 1804 he took to describing himself as a "Gentleman". His 1st wife Sophia ARMSTRONG of Southfleet died only 3 months after the birth of thir last child (aged 31 years). 5 years later Thomas married Anne HARRISON. They had no other children. Thomas played a prominent role in the draining of the Wantsum Channel and its outlying marshes, reclaiming much valuable agricultural land. The particular area being a branch of the sea where Roman galleys had sailed from Richborough to Reculver approx. 500 years earlier when Thanet was still an island.
